CIRCULATION
Circulation duties include, but are not limited to, checking
materials in/out, assisting patrons, shelving and shelfreading,
retrieving holds and ILL’s, accepting payment for fines, checking
patron’s records, adding new patron’s records, answering phones, and
retrieving materials from the Reserve Room.

ACQUISITIONS
Help with the ordering of library books—including the writing of
order cards, checking online with book vendors for prices, placing
orders, typing orders into the acquisitions program. Checking
titles in The New York Times Book Review, Library Journal,
Choice magazine, and Choice cards. Also, other duties as
assigned.

CATALOGING
Processing of all monographs, CD’s, fiche, etc. Processing consists of applying
college book plates, date due slips, adding security strips, stamping
books and applying spine labels which are generated from computer
when student retrieves a bibliographic record and creates the record for the
item in hand. The students are also responsible for adding
updates to certain material, and various other jobs helping other
departments when time permits.

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS
Unpack, check-in, and
process all new government publications received through the
depository shipment. Update government publications shelflist
database. Assist in the withdrawal process of government
documents. As needed, assist with duties of periodicals student
assistant. Other tasks as assigned.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Daily processing of
Interlibrary Loan materials including scanning photocopies and sending them
out through the Ariel system or mail. Also, retrieving books from
the stacks, packaging books to be sent out by mail or UPS, opening
mail & UPS packages, sending email messages to notify patrons.
Student should have skills in Word & Excel for typing directions and
doing ILL statistics and Copyright list.

PERIODICALS
Assist in the check-in and
processing of new serial material (i.e. journals, magazines,
newspapers). General office duties include possible word
processing, spreadsheets, and photocopying. Shelving of periodicals
and microfilm including collecting usage statistics. Assist public
in finding materials and using equipment. Other tasks as
assigned.
